Wi-Fi network requirements for Visionect devices#
Visionect devices have low-power Wi-Fi modules that rely on an established Internet connection in order to operate. As such, it is crucial for the Wi-Fi network to be stable and strong, and for it to meet certain requirements:
Wi-Fi Standard and broadband frequency#
Visionect devices are connected via the Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n standard.
Currently, only Place&Play 6 devices support both 2.4GHz and 5GHz network frequencies, while other devices support only the 2.4GHz network frequency.
Supported encryption#
Two types of Wi-Fi encryption are supported:
WPA2-PSK encryption:
Standard WPA2-PSK (AES) encryption is supported, provided by any standard modern access point. Old WPA and TKIP are not supported due to security concerns.
WPA2-EAP encryption:
In these devices, WPA2-EAP is supported in addition to WPA2-PSK. The devices support TLS, TTLS, and PEAP methods. For PEAP and TTLS, the MSCHAPv2 inner method is supported. The connection certificates (supported length 4096 bytes) can be stored on the internal storage of a Visionect’s device (uploaded in the .PEM format)
Open networks#
Visionect’s devices can also connect to Wi-Fi networks without encryption.
It might happen that this network is hidden when choosing a specific network for your device. In such cases, you will have to use the Visionect Configurator and manually connect to the network.
Supported Wi-Fi channels#
Visionect devices are able to connect to Wi-Fi channels spanning from 1 up to 11.
While they cover the 1-11 channel spectre, we highly advise setting your network to channels 1, 6, or 11 to ensure the highest performance and connectivity of our devices.
The device still won’t connect to the Wi-Fi network#
